Why do children with fussy or highly restrictive eating patterns often accept beige foods best?
The answer here is often the fact these foods provide predictability and consistency. For example, bread/crackers/crisps are likely to be the shape, flavour, shapes, colours, texture and taste every single time compared to fruits, vegetables or family foods where there is much more variability.
If you think of a punnet of blueberries, they can be soft or hard, sweet or sour, large or small - it’s much harder to know exactly what you’re getting!
Beige foods are also often a specific texture and/or flavour that children find it easier to manage
